Penang’s Gurney Bay – Check Out, Latest Seaside Park in 2024
We recently checked out the newly opened Penang Gurney Bay. They opened phase 1 to the public in February 2024. The whole park sits right by the seaside, so you can soak up the sea breeze and take in the amazing ocean view. My kids, aged 5 and 7, had a blast playing in the children’s play area.
Highlights of the Park
#1 Children Play Area
It is a large, modern, designed playground. The children’s play area is divided into two sections. The first section is a wide area equipped with trampolines, tunnels, net climbing arches, and side wall climbing features designed for kids aged 3 to 12.
Sea Stack Tower
Next, you will find the sea stack tower. It is a 4-storey stack tower equipped with two long spiral slides and multiple climbing features inside the tower. Please note that the slides get quite hot under the scorching sun. The tower is specifically designed for kids 6 to 12 years old as some of the climbing features in the tower may be challenging to younger kids.

#2 Skate Park
After that, you’ll come across the skate park, which is designed to mimic the excitement of riding waves with ramps, sleek rails, and adrenaline-pumping drops. It is catered for all levels – beginner skaters to seasoned skater. Skaters can also practice their tricks and refine their techniques in their designated area.
When is the Best Time to Come?
The park has no shades. So best to come late evening or night or whenever there is no sun. Some recommend coming early in the morning for a jog to watch the sunrise which is something you can do if you are an early riser.
Where to Park?
There’s a designated parking area, but right now it’s pretty limited with about 60 car parking spots. You can also park along Gurney Drive, the road next to the park, for easy access.
What’s more, by 2025, they hope to provide 1,050 parking bays by offering a multi-storey car park, additional open air car parks, buses, and motorcycle parking lots.
Is the Park Pet Friendly?
Yes, but with restrictions. Pets are only allowed at the lower promenade area or sea walkway. No pets are allowed at the children’s play area and skate park. Reminder: Make sure that pets are always on a leash and do clean up after them to ensure a clean environment for all.
Future Developments Expected in 2025
Finally, the construction of phase 2 of the park is still ongoing and they expect to complete it by mid-2025. In this phase, they hope to incorporate additional features such as a multilevel car park and hawker stalls, water taxi jetty, more toilets, commercial and retail areas with an additional open air parking lot for cars, motorcycles and buses. So more exciting things are coming. Stay tuned for more!
